What to eat with a Pinot Blanc ?
A delicate and versatile white wine, Pinot Blanc d'Alsace stands out for its freshness and subtle aromas. Discover which dishes to pair it with to bring out all its nuances.
Formerly known as Klevner in Alsatian (not to be confused with Klevener de Heiligenstein, made from the Savagnin Rose grape variety), Pinot Blanc is a generous Alsace wine with a beautiful personality.
The grapes of this variety produce a white wine that is generally very pale in color and beautifully clear. It is a fresh white wine, rich without being exuberant, with aromas of peach, apricot, even citrus, and a hint of white flowers. It reveals spicy notes on the palate and benefits from relative acidity.
This grape variety is also grown in Italy, Germany, Austria, and a few other countries. This has earned it several names: Pinot Bianco, Pinot Branco, Weißer Burgunder, Weißburgunder, etc. In France, Pinot Blanc is mainly grown in the Alsace wine region.
What food and wine pairings go well with Pinot Blanc from Alsace?
Pinot Blanc and aperitifs
Pinot Blanc d'Alsace is used in the production of Crémant d'Alsace (sometimes blended with Auxerrois). Vinified using traditional methods, it is the ideal companion for festive occasions. In its sparkling form, Pinot Blanc is a natural accompaniment to all types of appetizers: verrines, canapés, or other small puff pastries made with vegetables, cheese, or meat.
Serve Pinot Blanc with the main course
As a still wine, Pinot Blanc is light and nuanced, making it a versatile accompaniment to a wide range of dishes.
This dry wine pairs beautifully with fish and other seafood delicacies such as oysters, clams, sea urchins, and periwinkles.
Charming and delicate, this Alsace wine is particularly at home with all types of poultry and white meats, especially in sauces, such as veal blanquette.
Don't hesitate to pair it with asparagus when in season.
More traditional and in keeping with their origins and terroir, these dry white wines are an excellent accompaniment to Alsatian cuisine. These authentic wines go well with classic Alsatian dishes such as the unmissable tarte flambée and the delicious onion tart.
Sparkling Pinot Blanc and desserts
Crémants d'Alsace Brut, made from the Pinot Blanc grape variety, go very well with gourmet desserts with notes of roasted hazelnuts or caramel.
Crémants d'Alsace Demi-Sec are the perfect, delicate accompaniment to fruit-based desserts, cakes, and Bredele (small dry biscuits).
