Pinot blanc
Pinot blanc, a fresh wine, rich without being exuberant
Formerly known as Klevner in Alsatian (not to be confused with Klevener de Heiligenstein, made from the Savagnin Rose grape variety), Pinot Blanc is a generous wine from Alsace with a beautiful personality. It is often blended with the less acidic Auxerrois, which brings roundness to this judicious mixture.
The color of Pinot Blanc d'Alsace is generally very pale and beautifully clear. It is a fresh wine, rich without being exuberant, with aromas of peach, apricot, even citrus fruits and a hint of white flowers. It reveals spicy notes on the palate and benefits from a relative acidity. It is a white wine that is both tender and powerful, with a beautiful balance, to be enjoyed without delay!
Auxerrois, a grape variety in the top 3
The Pinot Blanc grape variety, originally from Burgundy, arrived in Alsace at the end of the Middle Ages.Auxerrois, on the other hand, is a Lorraine grape variety that was recently introduced to the region (since 1950).
Pinot Blanc is used in the production of Crémant d'Alsace, vinified according to the traditional method, with a second fermentation in the bottle. It is thanks to the development of the latter, benefiting from a recognized appellation since the 1970s, that the Pinot Blanc andAuxerrois grape varieties have developed in Alsace. This has allowed the expansion of the area of the vineyard dedicated to them: from 11% in 1969 to more than 21% today. Auxerrois is thus the third grape variety to be present in the Alsatian vineyard, behind Riesling and Gewurztraminer.
Pinot blanc, the ideal accompaniment for your dishes
Pinot Blanc, to be served chilled between 8 and 10°C, is a wine that can be paired with a wide variety of dishes. It goes very well with fish and other seafood such as oysters, clams, sea urchins or periwinkles. Charming and delicate, it is particularly at home with all types of poultry and white meats, especially in sauce, such as blanquette de veau. Don't hesitate to pair it with asparagus when in season. More traditional and in keeping with its origins and its terroir, it is a perfect accompaniment for the unmissable tarte flambée and the delicious onion tart.
In Crémant d'Alsace, it is the ideal companion for special occasions, and can be served as an aperitif, with desserts or grilled fish.
Pinot blanc, a well-established wine among the Wines of Alsace
Pinot Blanc is the lightest of Alsace wines. It naturally finds its place between dry white wines (Sylvaner and Riesling) and sweeter wines (Gewurztraminer or Pinot Gris). Pinot Blanc wine has an Alsace Controlled Appellation.
It finds its terroir marks in the vicinity of the communes of Pfaffenheim, Barr, Guebwiller, Rouffach and Ribeauvillé.
