How should a Crémant d’Alsace be enjoyed?
Crémant d'Alsace is a subtle and complex sparkling wine that offers a wonderful tasting experience... provided it is treated with the respect it deserves. Here's a quick overview.
Choosing and storing Crémant d'Alsace
Made from Chardonnay, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir (for Crémant Rosé) or Pinot Gris grapes, Crémant d'Alsace has a distinctly different "personality" depending on the percentage of each grape variety. Chardonnay in the lead? The Crémant will have more finesse. Auxerrois predominant? Roundness is its strength. Pinot Blanc well present? You will have a Crémant of quality and with good aging potential. Riesling at the top? This guarantees tart notes.
The type of Crémant is also important: brut, dry or demi-sec, the difference lies in the sugar content of Crémant d'Alsace. Brut has the least sugar, demi-sec has the most.
The first choice is therefore based on your expectations in terms of nose and palate.
The vintage is obviously also an important criterion for Crémant d'Alsace, as it is for all other wines.
Crémant d'Alsace can be kept for 1 to 6 years: store it horizontally in a cellar that is neither too humid nor too dry, at a temperature between 10 and 15°C.
Serving and tasting Crémant d'Alsace
Just like Champagne, Crémant d'Alsace is served in flutes and should be well chilled, between 5 and 8°C.
Make sure you have kept your Crémant in the refrigerator long enough, but allow it to warm up a little before opening. When serving, check the temperature with a wine thermometer immersed in a glass filled to 1/3 full. Once opened, Crémant d'Alsace should be kept in an ice bucket to ensure it stays cool and at a constant temperature. And of course, don't wait too long to drink it, or you'll see the bubbles disappear!
Then it's time to taste it: the finesse of its bubbles, its lovely freshness, the refinement of its aromas (with notes of raspberry, brioche, and white flowers in our Cuvée Grand Prestige, for example), and the complexity of its palate promise a wonderful moment of sharing.
Food and wine pairings, occasions: what to drink Crémant d'Alsace with and when?
Crémant d'Alsace has no reason to shy away from comparison with its illustrious cousin, Champagne. In fact, it is commonly accepted that it is better to drink a good Crémant than a bad Champagne! And today, it is no longer an alternative but a real choice, such is its recognized quality.
Crémant d'Alsace is particularly good as an Alsatian aperitif, of course, with savory kougelhopf and pretzels. But it also goes well with fish and seafood, as well as the essential sauerkraut! Crémant d'Alsace is also perfect for desserts: its bubbles will be a hit with your tarts, for example.
