Grand Cru Schlossberg: prestigious terroir in Alsace
Schlossberg: Alsace's premier Grand Cru
Classified in 1975, the Grand Cru Schlossberg is the oldest of the Grands Crus of Alsace. Covering 80.28 hectares, it is located in the municipalities of Kientzheim and Kaysersberg, with a southern exposure overlooking the Weiss valley. Its steep slopes, reaching heights of between 230 and 400 meters, have required the construction of terraces supported by dry stone walls, thus promoting rich biodiversity.
A granite terroir conducive to fine wines
The soil of the Schlossberg is composed of two-mica granite, offering sandy and mineral-rich soil. This composition, combined with excellent sun exposure, gives the wines great finesse, a marked minerality and a notable aromatic complexity.
Riesling, the jewel of the Schlossberg
Riesling is the emblematic grape variety of the Grand Cru Schlossberg. It develops pure and distinguished aromas, with remarkable elegance and longevity. The wines produced from this terroir are distinguished by their freshness, precision and their ability to faithfully reflect the characteristics of the granite soil.

Questions you may have
In order to qualify for the Grand Cru AOC designation, strict rules must be followed during the wine production process. Only four grape varieties are permitted in the Grand Cru appellations: Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer. There are a few exceptions regarding grape variety blends in Altenberg de Bergheim and Kaefferkopf, while Sylvaner is permitted in Zotzenberg.
