What wine to drink with sushi?

What food and wine pairing for sushi and maki?

Food that has become trendy, going beyond the borders of Asia, the sushi, makis and others spring rolls are invading your plates! These dishes of Japanese cuisine or Vietnamese are most often eaten on TV trays at home in the evening or as take-away meals at lunchtime with colleagues.

à serve with water, traditional Chinese or Japanese beer but also and especially with a good wine from Alsace! But Which Alsatian wines should be served with sushi?

Sushi and dry white wine: a safe bet

Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish, consisting of vinegared rice combined with another ingredient which is often raw fish (salmon, tuna, sea bream...) or seafood. Nothing goes better with sushi than a dry white wine from Alsace!

To support the power of the wasabi while enhancing the flavors of the fatty flesh of the tuna or the salmonopt for slightly spicy dry white wines. Thus, the riesling is here the perfect match.

Renowned for its elegance and finesse, this emblematic grape variety of the region produces mineral wines with flinty aromas, ideal with sushi.

Thus, the riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg will be a perfect accompaniment to all fish, whether raw or cooked. Also the riesling Grand Cru Mambourg which will perfectly match with freshness the Japanese cuisine.

Dare sushi and sparkling white wine!

The bubbles of the Crémants d'Alsace can also accompany very well the dishes based on raw fish: the sushi, sashimi but also the tartars of the sea or ceviches. Sparkling white wines with notes of white flowers, brioche and fresh butter will go very well with Japanese sushiespecially when they consist of seafood such as saint-jacques or shrimp.

Go for it and serve with your eyes closed our Crémant Grand Prestige! This sparkling wine is perfect for these Asian dishes.

Sushi and red wine: is it possible?

Although not the most traditional or recommended arrangement, the red wine lovers will be able to enjoy a Light and acidic Pinot Noir from Alsace to accompany their tuna nigiri. A Pinot Noir Classic will be a good food and wine pairing!

We wish you a good tasting of our Alsace wines (AOC Vins d'Alsace, Crémants d'Alsace and Grands Crus) with sushi, makis and other sashimi !
