Grand Cru Zinnkoepflé

ON THE PEAKS OF SOULTZMATT AND WESTHALTEN

Grand Cru Zinnkoepflé "Mont du Soleil" spans the villages of Westhalten and Soultzmatt, on a terroir composed of limestone and sandstone. Facing south-west in places and south-east in others, with an altitude ranging between 200 and 440 metres above sea level, this is Alsace's highest Grand Cru. The micro-climate is a unique blend of Mediterranean conditions and cool winds.

These unique conditions allow the region's noble grape varieties to reach an advanced state of over-ripeness without impinging on their aromatic quality.

Precision of the terroir

Grand Cru Zinnkoepflé, planted with Gewurztraminer grapes over more than half of its total surface area, produces wines of reliably excellent quality year after year. The wines of Zinnkoepflé are aromatic, powerful, generous, enticing and always enriched with a distinctive dash of acidity. Noble rot and extensive late season ripening are part of their unique charm, with the exception of the dry whites which are endowed with a crisp mineral freshness.

Gentle notes of the terroir

Peonies, verbena, menthol and liquorice are the classic characteristics of this terroir. The wines have a natural hint of vanilla and some subtle smoky aromas, accented with a hint of salinity.

Extraordinarily sunny exposure

“Like its limestone fossil-studded soil, Zinnkoepflé wines radiate an extraordinary intensity.”
